If you’re a busy person your schedule probably doesn’t leave you a lot of time in the morning to whip up a healthy breakfast to keep you going throughout the day. I’d also bet that busy schedule leaves you without any energy to stand around in your kitchen after a long day.
This is the perfect “lazy girl” meal for you. All you do is grab a few fruits, a little bit of protein, whatever liquid of your choosing, throw them in a blender, press start, sit back and wait for this delicious treat to reach your desired consistency.
You can prep this the night before by simply placing it in the fridge to chill overnight then just grab and go in the mornings. Perhaps you’re just wanting to relax after a long day, in that case, just reach in the fridge at the end your day and drink down your daily dose of protein withthis tasty treat.
Personally I love smoothies and I would highly recommend incorporating them into your own diet. They’re a very versatile meal and can be made so easily.
So for those of you who happen to be a busy parent, a college kid, someone with a time consuming career, or like me, simply lazy than smoothies are a great way to get your daily nutrients without cutting into your day. Smoothies can also last for up to two days in the fridge, so they’re perfect for meal prep.
Now at this point you’re probably saying “OK Dany what could I possibly need a recipe for? I mean you said so yourself, just grab a few things and throw them in the blender easy right?”
And yes it does sound easy, However it is just as easy to make a glass of sludge as it is to make a tasty smoothie. Honestly without a good recipe you’re more likely than not to get the sludge. That’s why it’s my job to create delicious recipes that you can easily make at home in your kitchen. I actually eat and drink everything I put on my blog so every recipe is tried and tested by yours truly.
There are only 7 ingredients in our smoothie. Although simple these ingredients make this smoothie a protein goldmine, being packed with tahini, greek yogurt, and protein powder.
If you’re craving a protein filled snack but hate the taste and/or texture that comes with protein powders, no worries we have substitutes for our protein powder as well as our other ingredients for you down below.
What you’ll need for your creamy protein smoothie:
• Almond Milk: I choose vanilla almond milk but you can use another plant based milk altogether. I suggest cashew milk to get the closest flavor. Nut milk will be one of your sources of protein.
• Chobani Vanilla Greek Yogurt Zero Sugar: Any greek yogurt will do, However I strongly recommend the Chobani Zero Sugar brand, especially if you’re a diabetic or on a low-carb diet. This will be one of your main protein sources in your smoothie.
•Rolled Oats: You can use any oats except for steel cut. They will not blend.
•Strawberries: It’s best to use frozen as they blend better and are more cost efficient.
•Tahini: You can always use a nut butter replacement. I recommend almond butter since we used almond milk, but really, you can use any nut butter you please. Fair warning though, depending on the nut butter you use the flavor may change a little.
•Vanilla Extract: Adds a lovely vanilla flavor to your smoothies. To enhance the flavor more with sweetness than you can add in a sugar free sweetener such as stevia, monksfriut, rx sugar, or Erythritol. All these sugar free options have no effect on blood sugar so are perfect for my diabetes out there.
• Protein Powder: We used vanilla here but you use any flavor. If you dislike the taste and texture of Protein Powder then you replace it with Collagen Peptides instead.
TIPS:
Frozen Is Better: Frozen fruit blends better and is more cost efficient, in my opinion, tha freash.
DON’T BE SCARED OF THE LIQUID: Your smoothie might seem a little thick to you, it’s ok don’t freak out. Just add a little more milk, scraping down the sides if you feel the need to do so, put the lid on, and hit blend. ( if you have a high speed blender use instead as it will blend better.)
INCREASE THE SPEED: If you start your blender on high it will not blend properly. Start lower and gradually increase the speed. (You use the puree button if you want a smoother drink)
SMOOTH: Some protein powders can leave a gritty texture in your smolet your smoothie sit for 5 minutes and it should be freash. I found the smoothie I placed in the fridge overnight had a better taste overall Is so I’d recommend meal prepping this.
